[Nolan Haims] modulated the performance for maximum effect, mining every laugh but not forgetting the shows considerable heart....He keeps his actors firmly grounded in honesty, producing star-turn performances.
- Ron Youngblood, The Maui News
Not only did I jump at the opportunity to direct in Maui (hey, I traded a New York February for weeks of sunshine, sand and surf!), but the chance to direct I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change was one I had been waiting for ever since the show opened in New York four years earlier.
I had worked with writer Joe DiPietro on his later play, Over the River and Through the Woods, and when asked what I love You... is about, he replies simply, Its about people connecting. I couldn't agree more with him. And that was what this production was all about for me. Though the show does possess the ability to veer into caricature, I was obsessive about keeping the characters real and finding the truth in all of their stories.
